What is a percentage anyway?
A percentage is just a way to express a number as a fraction of 100. The word literally means "per hundred". For example, 45% simply means 45 out of 100.

To find a percentage of a number, divide the percentage by 100 and multiply it by the total amount. Useful for calculating sales tax or discounts.
Amount = (Percentage / 100) × Total
Example: 15% of 200? (15 / 100) × 200 = 30
To find what percent one number is of another, divide the part by the whole number and multiply the result by 100.
Percent = (Part / Whole) × 100
Example: 50 is what percent of 200? (50 / 200) × 100 = 25%
To find the difference between two values as a percentage, subtract the old value from the new value, divide the result by the old value, and multiply by 100.
Change % = ((New - Old) / Old) × 100
Example: Changing from 100 to 150? ((150 - 100) / 100) × 100 = 50%
A percentage is just a way to express a number as a fraction of 100. The word literally means "per hundred". For example, 45% simply means 45 out of 100.
Move the decimal point of your bill one spot to the left (which gives you 10%), cut that number in half (which gives you 5%), and add them together. Or, just multiply your bill by 0.15. For example, a 15% tip on $40 is $40 × 0.15 = $6.00.
It just means the value has decreased. For example, if an item's price goes down from $100 to $80, the price dropped by 20%, so the percentage change is -20%.
